German company BOS has installed a smart DC mini-grid in the north of India in cooperation with local partner Oorja Development Solutions Ltd. Since then, 30 households in the village of Sarvantara have been receiving their electricity through a mini-grid containing hybrid storage systems powered by photovoltaic panels, the German start-up announced on Tuesday. The goal of the project is to supply up to 100 households with green electricity in the coming months.
The village is located in a rural part of India with no access to the grid. Thanks to the off-grid energy solution equipped with signal transmitter, energy can be supplied and consumption can be optimized. BOS claims a lifetime of its modern hybrid storage solution, that combines lithium-ion and lead acid batteries, of at least five years. The future power consumption is paid for by each household individually.
In addition to the grid connection for the first 30 households, BOS and Oorja have trained local technicians for on-site support and quality control. According to the German company, the villagers were also given detailed information about the system.
The Indian project is coordinated by the German Energy Agency and and co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy within the German Energy Solutions Initiative.
