As part of its maiden technical tour IESA conducted special energy storage panel discussions at the 6th Renewable Energy India Expo (7th November 2012, New Delhi) and Inter Solar India conference (8th November 2012, Mumbai) Â

IESA had co-ordinated with two leading conferences Viz., Intersolar India and 6th Renewable Energy India 2012 Expo, where the select delegates and IESA members participated in interactive panel discussions on Energy Storage and Microgrids. Audience got an opportunity to learn from their valuable insights during these sessions.

The 6th Renewable Energy India 2012 Expo was held during 7-9 November 2012 at the international standard venue facility of the India Expo Center, Greater Noida (National Capital Region of Delhi). A 3 day concurrent conference having 36 sessions and 172 speakers was also conducted. The expo forum attracted key stakeholders and leading industry stalwarts to network and tap new markets. 475 domestic and international exhibitors from 25 countries and 10,169 trade professionals comprising of 6,056 qualified buyers participated at the expo. The event was supported by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India which has a growth target of 30GW of renewable energy generation by 2017.

IESA conducted two back to back sessions as panel discussions at this conference and the details are as listed under:

Grid scale energy storage technologies session was moderated by Dr. Rahul Walawalkar, Vice President, Emerging Technologies & Markets, Customized Energy Solutions.

This interactive session showcased the various grid scale energy storage technologies and the panelists shared their experiences with the audience about the challenges in implementation, the success stories and drivers / enablers for a better technology spectrum. The need for a better policy / regulatory framework was suggested a number of times during this interaction to enable optimal grid efficiency. The role of IESA was also appreciated in this regard, with onus on the platform that it intends to create.

Case studies from around the world were illustrated during this highly interactive session, with challenges and how to overcome the same bearing special significance.
