Recently Central government of India announced National Green Hydrogen Mission with the total outlay for the mission ₹19,744 crore ($2.2 Bn USD), out of which the government has allocated ₹17,490 crore for the SIGHT programme, ₹1,466 crore for the upcoming pilot projects, ₹400 crore for R&D, and ₹388 crore towards other mission components. The mission is aimed at making India the global hub for the production of green hydrogen. The Mission will have wide-ranging benefits- the creation of export opportunities for Green Hydrogen and its derivatives; Decarbonisation of industrial, mobility and energy sectors; reduction in dependence on imported fossil fuels and feedstock; development of indigenous manufacturing capabilities; creation of employment opportunities; and development of cutting-edge technologies. India’s Green Hydrogen production capacity is likely to reach at least 5 MMT per annum, with an associated renewable energy capacity addition of about 125 GW. The targets by 2030 are likely to bring in over Rs. 8 lakh crore investments and create over 6 lakh jobs. Nearly 50 MMT per annum of CO2 emissions are expected to be averted by 2030. IESA Welcome the move and thanks to all government bodies and India Green Hydrogen Council (IGHC) Members for their active involvement & inputs in this policy making and market creation process. We expect India to lead the green hydrogen production, technology development and deployment with export opportunities.

We are happy to mention that IESA is launching India Green Hydrogen Council (IGHC), a dedicated platform to boost green hydrogen R&D, Manufacturing, and adoption in India.

The 5 key focus areas of India Hydrogen Council (IHC) will be

  1. To boost indigenous R&D and innovation and International Collaboration in Green Hydrogen technologies
  2. Policy advocacy for both state and central government bodies to create a robust green hydrogen economy for India
  3. To create India as a global hub for electrolyser and other green hydrogen components manufacturing
  4. To catalyse the Green Hydrogen deployment in India with export opportunity
  5. To create knowledge resource and next generation skilled workforce for Green Hydrogen sector
