Energy storage session at eTECHnxt Pavilion (Hall no.06) at ELECRAMA 2018

Indian energy storage space is in an interesting phase. This is the best time to enter Indian energy storage market. Energy storage sector is becoming exciting with 50 MWh+ large scale projects announced in 2016 and 2017. Apart from these tenders, various private and government bodies are going for megawatt level energy storage projects in India. Other application areas like Electric Vehicle (EVs), Charging Infrastructure, Microgrid, Telecom tower, C&I applications, Solar integration, Smart grid and Smart cities will act as a major catalyst for energy storage adoption in India.

India has been a huge market for conventional technologies like lead acid batteries. New technologies like lithium ion, flow batteries, sodium based batteries are evolving in energy storage space. Lithium ion batteries have already witnessed acceptance in telecom towers, EVs and large scale solar integration projects. This extensive market has interested many foreign technology players as well as Indian companies to explore the sector. Indian government is also creating encouraging policies like FAME India initiative under NEMMP, National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), draft national microgrid policy, draft energy storage staff paper by CERC, & BIS energy storage standards to boost energy storage market. We, at IESA, estimate the market potential to reach 300GWh by 2025. Following the market potential, MNRE also created an expert committee to create National Energy Storage Mission by April 2018. IESA is a part of MNRE committee and will be actively involved in drafting the National Energy Storage Mission.

With the support of IEEMA, IESA is organizing this energy storage session (theme: Energy storage manufacturing – Make in India opportunities) on 13th March at eTECHnxt Pavilion (Hall no.06) at ELECRAMA.

Objective: The session will provide an overview of advanced energy storage technology manufacturing and will also provide knowledge on energy storage component and power electronics manufacturing for energy storage systems in India.
